- You are chemist, physicist, engineer or biologist and you are planning to go in for a career in Soft Matter Science. The “International Research Training Group - Soft Matter Science: Concepts for the Design of Functional Materials”, a recent interdisciplinary research and training program between France and Germany, is made for you.
What is the International Research Training Group on Soft Matter Science?
This International Research Training Group (IRTG) brings together chemists, physicists, engineers and biologists from Freiburg, Strasbourg, Mulhouse and Basel to advance the knowledge in the field of soft condensed matter and to develop concepts for the design of innovative materials with a high level of functionality.
A French-German Master in Polymer science will be proposed from 2013. The PhD program is already ongoing.
All research projects are bilateral and, taking advantage of the geographic proximity, all PhD students enrolled in this program have the opportunity to realize their research project in France and Germany through short- and long term visits at the partner university. - Activité principale
- What is the research project “Soft Matter Science: Concepts for the Design of Functional Materials”?
The research program in “Soft Matter Science: Concepts for the Design of Functional Materials” comprises 21 PhD theses organized in three focus areas:
A. Controlling and directing assembly processes in soft matter systems
B. Designing and improving multicomponent soft matter systems
C. Exploring and sensing interfacial properties of soft matter systems
The interdisciplinary training program:
The IRTG promotes graduate education and successful integration of the PhD students in the scientific community.
All PhD students have the opportunity to
- follow seminars and lectures from visiting researchers and invited scientists;
- participate at specialized workshops and training camps;
- be invited to excursions to industry planned to acquire experiences with industrial approaches;
- participate by poster and/or oral communications in national and international conferences;
- optimize their career perspective in acquiring complementary skills, such as foreign languages, management duties, communication skills, etc.
The added values of the IRTG:
• Comprehensive, interdisciplinary research and training programme
• Multicultural, crossborder and transnational transfer of knowledge
• Becoming a well-trained experts in the multifaceted field of soft matter science - Etablissements partenaires
